As an aircraft operator you are obliged to file an annual report on tonne-kilometers and emissions. This report determines the number of allowances your company needs to transfer to the authorities for compensating the emissions caused by your operations. Additionally, the report will provide detailed information about the number of allowances your company needs to acquire to fill the gap between the free alloocated allowances and the actual amount required. In detail this means starting from 2012 all aircraft operators have to prepare reports and buy additional allowances required until 31st of March every year.

Non-compliance with the deadline will lead to legal consequences and fines. Furthermore, an operator needs to register with the European Energy Exchange (EEX) for the acquisition of allowances. This implies an extensive financial effort since the registration fee amounts to 5.000 Euro p. a.
